Big Data technology is playing an important role nowadays in many domains. It improves the data process and data analysis. Software Engineering is a traditional research field that explores the theories and techniques for software construction and application. The Big Data technology will also lead to important opportunities for the Software Engineering filed. By leveraging Big Data tech.-based intelligent methods, such as deep learning and reinforcement learning, Software Engineering researchers will not suffer from the troubles of massive data processing. They are able to explore more implicit and complex patterns of the software systems and services. With the new patterns, more novel and brilliant approaches can be developed that rapidly facilitate Software Engineering research in different focuses, such as software architecture, safety and reliability, security, and scalability. Therefore, the research of Big Data technology-based Software Engineering method is becoming a significant future investigation direction. The SEBD workshop is intended to provide researchers a forum to present the latest innovation and share experience in the cross-domain of Software Engineering and Big Data.


The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Software safety and security based on big data
  • Information retrieval based on big data
  • Pattern recognition based on big data

Conference Companion


Accepted workshop papers will appear in the QRS 2018 conference companion which will be published by IEEE Computer Society Conference Publishing Services (CPS). Papers presented at the conference will also be submitted for inclusion into the IEEE Xplore and to all of the A&I (abstracting and indexing) partners (such as the Ei Compendex).

Authors may also choose to publish their papers in an Ei-indexed journal–International Journal of Performability Engineering (IJPE; http://www.ijpe-online.com).

Best Paper Award


At least one award will be presented. Authors will receive a certificate signed by the President of the IEEE Reliability Society and the Organizers of SEBD 2018.

Submission


Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished papers. Simultaneous submissions to other publications and conferences are not permitted. Detailed instructions for electronic paper submission, panel proposals and review process can be found at http://paris.utdallas.edu/qrs18/submission.html.


The length of a camera ready paper will be limited to eight pages, including the title of the paper, the name and affiliation of each author, a 150-word abstract, and up to 6 keywords.


Authors must follow the IEEE conference proceedings format to prepare papers. At least one of the authors of each accepted paper is required to pay full registration fee and present the paper at the workshop. The submissions must be in PDF and uploaded to the workshop submission site.

Reliability Issues in Large-Scale Network Systems

Abstract

Large-Scale Network Systems are becoming increasingly large and complex with system structure and operation managements. As a typical large-scale network system, Big Data needs to integrate multiple heterogeneous sub-systems to achieve the real-time mass data processing. The threads to large-scale network system reliability come from both the environment in which the system operates and the software flaws. We need comprehensive approaches to deal with the challenges that inner or outer threads present. The foundation necessary to support such approaches is a sound solution that can help to identify, elicit, analyze, and specify the reliability requirements for large-scale network systems, and to make them explainable. This talk will propose an in-depth analysis and action guide to improve the reliability of large-scale network systems.


About the Speakers

Liang Luo is a lecturer in University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. His research work is primarily concerned with system reliability and large-scale distributed systems, focusing on reliability requirements, conceptual modeling and analysis. Recently, he pays more attentions on modeling of large-scale network systems. Dr. Luo has a Ph.D.(Doctor) degree and Master Degrees in computer science from the Beihang University and the Beijing Institute of Technology.
