The First International Workshop
on
Knowledge of Data Engineering (KDE 2008)

in conjunction with WASA 2008
( International Conference on Wireless Algorithms, Systems and Applications)

Dallas, Texas

October 26, 2008

Motivation

Over the past few years, new and improved technologies have made available large quantities of massive data. There is a critical demand for innovative techniques to model and analyze these vast volumes of heterogeneous data. This workshop is intended to provide a forum for researchers working in computer science systems, who carry out research and development in database systems, distributed systems, software engineering, information management, data mining, and data communication. The workshop consists of refereed papers, invited talks, and panel discussions. Participation in the workshop will be open to all WASA?08 attendees.

Scope of the Workshop

Papers presenting original research on the following topics, but not exclusive, are solicited:

  • Knowledge representation
  • Knowledge discovery and data mining
  • Database design, modeling and management
  • Data mining for software engineering
  • Warehousing spatial/biological/temporal data
  • Spatial and spatial-temporal data mining
  • Geo-spatial query processing and optimization
  • Biological query processing and optimization
  • Geo-spatial and biological data cleaning
  • Geo-spatial algebra and query language
  • Genomic algebra and query languages
  • Ontology design
  • Biological workflows
  • Algorithms for large scale and distributed geospatial/biological databases
  • Protein structure prediction
  • Management of proteomic experimental data
  • Management of bio images
  • XML and biological data management
  • Parallel and distributed Computation
  • Wireless sensor networks
  • Biologist-friendly user interface design
  • Algorithms for computation biomedicine
  • XML and GIS
  • Integrity, security, and tolerance

Paper Submission & Selection

Research papers and experience reports related to the scope of the workshop are solicited. Submissions must not have been published or be concurrently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Papers should be submitted in the PDF format with no more than ten pages using the standard IEEE two-column format. Each submission will be reviewed and judged on the basis of its originality, contribution, technical and presentation quality, and relevance to the workshop. Upon acceptance, prospective authors must provide a revised camera-ready version which takes into account the review comments. The first ten pages of each paper are free. Authors have an option to purchase two additional pages with US $150.00 each. IEEE will publish the conference proceedings, which will also be available online through IEEE?s Digital Library.

Please submit your papers via email to Professor Weili Wu.
